Considered a leading force in the Canadian movement for organic and biodynamic fine winemaking, Ann Sperling has three decades of experience in the creation of top quality, critically acclaimed wines across Canada and internationally. Preferring a vineyard-focused ideology, Ann applies detailed organic and biodynamic grape-growing practices as the foundation for gentle, non-interventionist winemaking on the crush pad and in the cellar, to attain complex, terroir-driven wines of great subtlety and finesse.

Head winemaking positions in BC (CedarCreek) and Ontario (Malivoire) preceded international consulting stints in South Africa and Argentina, followed by more recent winery start-ups, including Clos du Soleil (2009) and Sperling Vineyards (2008), as well as Versado (2007) with her winery consulting husband, Peter Gamble, from their ancient Malbec vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina. Ann’s daily focus is as Director of Winemaking and Viticulture at Southbrook Vineyards, which she established as Canada’s first Demeter-certified biodynamic winery in 2008.
